So the right question is not:

Because when it comes to renovation grants, doing the right renovation in the wrong order can cost you money.

What Home Renovation Grants Are Still Available in Quebec?

For Quebec homeowners looking to improve their home’s energy efficiency, two programs are particularly worth investigating:

• Rénoclimat, from the Government of Quebec;
• LogisVert, from Hydro-Québec.

They do not necessarily cover the same improvements, and their eligibility requirements are different.

Other programs may also exist depending on your municipality, property, project or situation.

That is why I would rarely begin with:

“What is the best renovation grant?”

I would begin with:

“What renovation am I actually trying to complete?”

Because the right program starts with the right project.

Is Rénoclimat Still Available in Quebec?

Yes.

Rénoclimat is still accepting new applications.

The Quebec program is designed to help homeowners improve the energy performance of existing homes.

Depending on the work and applicable requirements, financial assistance may be available for certain improvements involving:

• insulation;
• air sealing;
• doors and windows;
• certain mechanical systems.

But before choosing materials, hiring a contractor or beginning the work, there is one extremely important rule to understand.

Do You Need to Register With Rénoclimat Before Starting Renovations?

Yes.

And if you remember only one thing from this article, make it this:

Complete the required Rénoclimat pre-retrofit energy evaluation before starting the renovations you want considered for financial assistance.

The process generally involves an energy evaluation before the work, completion of eligible improvements and another evaluation after the renovations.

Imagine this:

You sign with the contractor on Monday.

The work begins Wednesday.

On Friday, someone tells you about Rénoclimat.

You discover that the renovations you just started could potentially have qualified.

But the step that needed to happen before construction was never completed.

At that point, the problem is no longer finding the grant.

The problem is that you started too early for those renovations to qualify.

Before the first hammer swings:

Check.

What Types of Homes Can Qualify for Rénoclimat?

Rénoclimat can apply to different types of existing residential properties in Quebec.

Depending on the program requirements, this can include:

• single-family homes;
• semi-detached homes;
• row houses;
• duplexes;
• triplexes;
• certain small multi-unit residential buildings.

Other conditions also apply.

The home must meet the program requirements concerning factors such as its location, use and characteristics.

For certain divided co-ownership properties, participation can also involve requirements at the building level and may need to be handled through the syndicate of co-ownership.

So the right approach is not to look at your property and decide:

“It should qualify.”

Check the requirements that apply specifically to your building.

What Renovations Can Qualify for Rénoclimat?

Insulation

Certain insulation improvements may qualify.

This can include work involving the roof, exterior walls, foundations or certain exposed floors.

Potential financial assistance depends on the program’s technical requirements and the improvement achieved.

The important point is that the program is not simply rewarding you for buying insulation.

The improvement to the home matters.

Air Sealing

Improving a home’s airtightness can reduce drafts, air leakage and heat loss.

For this type of project, the performance of the home before and after the work can be important in determining the applicable financial assistance.

Doors and Windows

Replacing certain doors and windows may also qualify when the products and work meet the program requirements.

And this is where an easy mistake can happen.

A salesperson tells you:

“These windows are energy efficient.”

Great.

But that does not automatically mean:

“These windows meet the specific requirements of the program you want to use.”

Those are two different statements.

Verify before ordering.

Certain Mechanical Systems

Some improvements involving mechanical systems may also qualify.

But there is a common point of confusion.

A heat pump is not automatically a measure funded through Rénoclimat.

For heat pumps, one of the programs you should investigate is Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert.

What Financial Assistance Is Available for Heat Pumps in Quebec?

For the installation or replacement of certain eligible heat pumps, check the LogisVert program from Hydro-Québec.

LogisVert provides financial assistance for different residential energy-efficiency measures.

The amount you may qualify for depends on factors such as the work completed, equipment selected, its eligibility and the program conditions in effect when you complete the project.

Again, the same principle applies.

Do not choose a heat pump simply because an advertisement says:

“Eligible for a grant.”

Check the exact model.

Check the requirements.

Check the applicable amount.

Check the required steps.

The word “eligible” in an advertisement does not replace confirmation from the official program.

Can You Combine Rénoclimat and LogisVert?

In some situations, the programs can complement each other.

For example, a homeowner might complete insulation or air-sealing work through one program and install an eligible heat pump through another.

But that does not automatically mean two programs can fund exactly the same expense.

Before building your renovation budget around multiple sources of financial assistance, verify:

• which renovations are covered;
• whether the equipment qualifies;
• the rules for combining assistance;
• applicable dates;
• required documentation;
• any steps that must be completed before work begins.

Two available programs do not automatically mean two grants for the same renovation.

Is the Canada Greener Homes Grant Still Available?

No.

And this is where many older articles can become misleading.

The Canada Greener Homes Grant is no longer accepting new applications.

Eligible Quebec participants had until September 30, 2025, to complete certain steps related to the former federal assistance.

But that does not mean Rénoclimat is closed.

The two should not be confused.

The former federal grant is closed to new applicants. Rénoclimat remains active and continues to accept new applications.

You can check the current status of federal energy-efficiency renovation programs for Quebec homeowners.

If you find an older article promising thousands of dollars through the Canada Greener Homes Grant, check when it was published before including that money in your renovation budget.

A program that existed when an article was written may no longer exist under the same conditions today.

Old grant information can make a current renovation budget look much better than it actually is.

Do All Home Renovations Qualify for Grants?

No.

And this is one of the biggest misconceptions about renovation assistance.

You can complete an excellent renovation that qualifies for no grant at all.

Renovate a kitchen.

Modernize a bathroom.

Install new flooring.

Repaint the house.

Transform a room.

These improvements can make a significant difference to your property and your quality of life.

But that does not mean an energy-efficiency program will pay for them.

Programs such as Rénoclimat primarily target certain improvements related to the home’s energy performance.

“I’m renovating my house” and “my renovations qualify for a grant” are two different statements.

Does a New Roof Qualify for Rénoclimat?

Not simply because you are replacing the roof covering.

Replacing the roof covering itself is not automatically an eligible Rénoclimat measure.

But if your project also includes eligible work involving roof insulation, for example, that portion of the project may be treated differently when it meets the applicable requirements.

This is an excellent example of why you need to look at the specific work.

You might say:

“I’m replacing my roof.”

But the project could actually include several different improvements:

• roof covering;
• insulation;
• air sealing;
• ventilation;
• repairs.

Some may qualify.

Others may not.

The general name of the project does not determine the grant. The specific work does.

Does an Eligible Renovation Automatically Increase Your Home’s Value?

No.

An energy-efficient renovation can improve comfort, energy performance, consumption, the overall condition of the property and its appeal to certain buyers.

But spending $20,000 does not automatically create another $20,000 in market value.

Why?

Because buyers do not reimburse your renovation invoices.

They compare your property with the other homes they could purchase.

They look at location.

Condition.

Layout.

Finishes.

Building components.

Operating costs.

And the alternatives available at the same price.

A grant can reduce your net renovation cost.

It does not guarantee your real estate return.

Financial assistance and market value are two different calculations.

A good renovation and a good resale decision are not always exactly the same thing.

Renovating in Greater Montreal and the South Shore

On the South Shore, properties in Greenfield Park, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Sainte-Catherine, Delson and Mercier can have very different priorities depending on when they were built and what previous owners have already improved.

Provincial programs can apply throughout Quebec when the property and renovations meet the applicable requirements.

But some municipalities may also offer their own programs.

Before beginning a major project, check three places:

• Government of Quebec programs;
• energy-provider programs;
• programs offered by your municipality, when available.

Because local financial assistance can easily escape your attention if your only search is:

“Quebec home renovation grants.”

What Mistakes Can Cost You a Renovation Grant?

Starting the Work Before Checking the Rules

For a program requiring preliminary steps, starting too early can become an expensive mistake.

Choosing Equipment Before Confirming Eligibility

A heat pump, window or other product can be energy efficient without meeting the exact requirements of the program you want to use.

Using an Old Article as Your Main Source

Programs change.

Amounts change.

Eligibility requirements change.

Some programs close.

Always verify current information.

Assuming the Contractor Automatically Handles Everything

A contractor may know a program extremely well.

That does not mean you should blindly delegate verification of your own eligibility.

Spending Based on Financial Assistance That Has Not Been Confirmed

Imagine your project costs $30,000.

Your budget only works because you expect several thousand dollars in financial assistance.

That expected grant is no longer a small bonus.

It has become part of the financial structure of your project.

And that creates risk.

An expected grant is not yet money in your bank account.

What Documents Should You Keep?

Requirements vary by program.

But it is wise to keep a dedicated renovation file containing relevant documents such as:

• estimates;
• contracts;
• invoices;
• proof of payment;
• model numbers;
• technical specifications;
• before-and-after photographs;
• energy evaluation reports;
• municipal permits when required;
• correspondence related to your application.

Do not wait six months after the renovations to rebuild your file from old emails and scattered invoices.

Create your file before you create your construction site.

Should You Renovate Just Because a Grant Is Available?

Not necessarily.

And this may be the most important question in the entire article.

Imagine a renovation project costing:

$18,000.

Financial assistance could help you recover part of that amount.

Great.

But one question remains:

Did you actually need to spend the $18,000 right now?

A grant can make a good project more attractive.

It does not automatically turn a bad project into a good financial decision.

Before renovating, ask yourself:

• What problem am I trying to solve?
• Is it actually a priority?
• What will the project cost after financial assistance?
• How long am I likely to keep the property?
• Will the improvement genuinely increase my comfort?
• Will it meaningfully reduce my energy costs?
• Am I planning to sell soon?

Then look at the entire decision.

Because there is a major difference between:

Saving $2,000 on a project you actually need.

And:

Spending $15,000 only because someone is offering you $2,000.

The grant should improve a good decision.

It should not create the decision.

Before signing a contract or ordering equipment:

2. Check which programs are currently available.
3. Review the official eligibility requirements.
4. Confirm whether a pre-retrofit evaluation is required.
5. Verify whether the building qualifies.
6. Verify whether the renovation or equipment qualifies.
7. Confirm the rules for combining financial assistance.
8. Prepare the required documentation.
9. Obtain any required municipal permits.
10. Start the work only after completing all required preliminary steps.

The most important principle fits into one sentence:

Look for the grant before the renovations. Not after.

Yes, financial assistance is still available for certain residential renovations in Quebec.

Rénoclimat remains an important program for several improvements related to energy efficiency.

LogisVert can support certain measures, including eligible equipment such as some heat pumps.

The Canada Greener Homes Grant, however, is no longer accepting new applications.
